About the Young Democrats of Maryland

History and Mission

The Young Democrats of Maryland is affiliated with the Young Democrats of America (YDA), the official youth arm of the Democratic Party since 1932. Open to anyone under the age of 40 who affiliates with the Democratic Party, YDA is a nationwide grassroots organization with 42 chartered states and 780 local chapters. Our 43,000 plus membership reflects the broad diversity of our nation and the Democratic Party. This includes high school students, college students, young workers, young professionals and young families. All of the members have the interest of their community at heart and work hard to affect the democratic process. To learn more about YDM, become a member and join our e-mail list.
Vision Statement

Through community service projects, youth outreach, social functions, and issue forums that focus on current issues impacting young people in the various regions of Maryland, YDM plans to create and/or enlarge YDM chapters in each county and at each college in Maryland. With the help of the Maryland Democratic Party, YDM will be successful here in Maryland as well as in the Young Democrats of America, its parent organization. YDM will also enhance its communications efforts this year to ensure that the public and the elected officials of Maryland fully understand the impact of public policy proposals on young people. We are the 'new generation of Americans' and the future of this state and nation rests in our hands. It is important that our voice be heard well in the public policy debate. The bottom line is that YDM will stand up strong for the ideals of the Democratic Party and will work hard for the Party to make sure the public remembers those ideals and what they have meant to this state and to our country.
